Novo Nordisk Rebrands as Novo for Its Next Era

Novo Nordisk is becoming Novo.
The Danish pharmaceutical company unveiled a major global rebrand in September 2026, dropping “Nordisk” from its everyday branding while retaining Novo Nordisk A/S as its legal company name. The change includes a redesigned logo, a new brand platform and an updated set of cultural principles intended to reflect how the company wants to operate in an increasingly competitive healthcare market.
The rebrand introduces the platform “Lasting Health Starts Now”, built around the idea that meaningful improvements in health should begin in the present rather than at some distant point in the future. Even Novo’s longstanding Apis bull has been updated. The bull now faces to the right rather than the left, a deliberate visual reference to looking forward.
But the timing of the change is particularly notable.

Novo has become one of the most prominent companies in global pharma through the success of its diabetes and obesity medicines, particularly Ozempic and Wegovy. At the same time, competition in both markets has intensified significantly, most notably from Eli Lilly and its Mounjaro and Zepbound franchises.
The corporate rebrand also follows efforts by Novo to simplify how some of its medicines are presented. Earlier in 2026, the company retired the Rybelsus name in the US in favour of Ozempic pill, while also using Wegovy pill and Wegovy injection branding. Together, these moves point to a broader focus on simpler and more immediately recognisable brands.
Alongside the visual changes comes “The Novo Way”, a new set of principles intended to shape the company’s culture and working practices as it competes in a faster and increasingly consumer driven healthcare environment. CEO Mike Doustdar has described the company’s brand and culture as strategically important to how Novo operates and competes.
Novo is not alone in reconsidering its corporate identity. Other major pharmaceutical companies, including GSK and Sanofi, have similarly shortened or refreshed their brands in recent years.
For Novo, however, the change comes at a pivotal moment. The company is preserving more than a century of pharmaceutical heritage while signalling that it wants its identity, like its business, to be simpler, faster and prepared for its next phase of competition.
The “Nordisk” may be disappearing from the brand, but the bigger story is what Novo wants the shorter name to represent.
